Club soccer in Alaska

Snow can still be on the ground in April, daylight disappears for much of the winter, and the biggest clubs lean on indoor domes to keep kids playing from October through spring. Most of the competitive action sits in and around Anchorage, with Chugiak to the north, the Mat-Su Valley around Palmer and Wasilla, and Fairbanks anchoring the Interior.

The state association is the Alaska Youth Soccer Association, a US Youth Soccer member that runs the Alaska State Cup and lists a dozen or so affiliate clubs on its directory, from Juneau and Ketchikan in the Southeast to Homer and Kenai on the peninsula. There's no MLS NEXT, ECNL or Girls Academy club in the state, and no MLS, NWSL or USL pro team to feed from. What you get instead is a tight local ladder. Players move from recreational teams to pre-competitive groups and then to competitive teams in leagues like the AK Premier League and the United Anchorage Youth Soccer League, with the USYS National League as the reach goal for the strongest teams.

That last piece has paid off lately. In July 2026 the Cook Inlet Soccer Club U17 girls won a US Youth Soccer national championship in Tennessee, the first national title for any team from the state, according to the Anchorage Daily News. Earlier, an Alaska Rush girls team from the 2006 age group had qualified for a national championship event.

Because the player pool is small, clubs here tend to be broad. A single organization often runs recreational leagues, camps, a training center and the top competitive teams under one roof, and families can move between levels without changing clubs. Travel is the hidden cost. Getting to regional and national events usually means flying out of state, so budget for airfare before you commit to the highest tier. The clubs below are the ones Alaska parents most often compare, and each links to its own site for current teams, fees and tryout dates.

The clubs

Popular clubs in Alaska

These are the clubs Alaska families ask about most. League badges show what we could confirm for the 2025-26 season, so check each club's own site for current teams, tryout dates and fees. For 2026-27, the NPL and the US Youth Soccer National League combined into the National 1 League, which teams enter one at a time, so ask a club which of its teams play in N1.

Cook Inlet Soccer Club

Anchorage · Boys and girls
USYS National LeagueRecreational

Cook Inlet is the largest club in the state, and its own site lists competitive, pre-competitive, recreational and training center programs, plus summer camps. It's affiliated with US Youth Soccer, Alaska Youth Soccer, the USYS National League, the AK Premier League and the United Anchorage Youth Soccer League. Its U17 girls won a US Youth Soccer national title in July 2026, a first for Alaska. Rec runs in all four seasons, which keeps younger kids on a ball year round.

Alaska Rush

Anchorage · Boys and girls · Since 2005
Recreational

Alaska Rush is the Anchorage affiliate of the national Rush network, and a directory listing says it formed in 2005 from the older Alaska Goldstrikers. Its site lists fall recreational sessions at Fox Hollow Sports Dome for kids born 2014 to 2024, a winter pre-competitive academy for U7 and U8, and a competitive indoor program from U11 through U18 or U19. Games for U11 and U12 are 9v9, and older teams play 11v11.

Eclipse Soccer Club

Fairbanks · Boys and girls · Since 1995

Eclipse is the Interior's club, serving Fairbanks and the surrounding communities, and it's on the Alaska Youth Soccer affiliate list. The site carries a "Competitive Excellence Since 1995" tagline, a trophy case of past champions and a coach application page. For families north of the Alaska Range it's the obvious competitive option, since Anchorage is a long drive or a flight away.

Chugiak Soccer Club

Chugiak · Boys and girls

Chugiak Soccer Club serves the community just north of Anchorage and is listed by Alaska Youth Soccer as an affiliate. Its site advertises 2026 tryouts, a Summer Classic tournament, a Spring Breakers 3v3 event, a goalkeeping camp and a spring break camp. The club says its teams compete in tournaments across Alaska. It's a practical choice for families in the Eagle River and Chugiak area who want to skip the drive into town.

Polar Vortex Futbol Club

Palmer · Boys and girls

Polar Vortex is a Mat-Su Valley club based in Palmer and listed as an Alaska Youth Soccer affiliate. Its website covers registration, tryouts for the 2026-27 season and a coaches section. The Valley has several youth organizations, including Palmer Soccer Club and Valley Revolution, so it's worth comparing which one trains closest to your home and whether the competitive teams match your child's level.

Picking a team

Choosing a club in Alaska

Start with where you live, since Alaska clubs are built around a single town or a section of the Anchorage bowl. A club in Chugiak, Palmer or Fairbanks will serve you better than a bigger name an hour away, especially in winter driving.

Next, ask about indoor time. Anchorage clubs run most competitive training and games in domes from fall through spring, and those slots are limited, so find out which facility your birth year uses and how many sessions per week you really get. Then look at the competitive calendar. Teams that chase the USYS National League or regional events spend real money on flights, so ask for a travel budget for the full season before you sign.

Finally, check tryout timing. Several clubs post their 2026-27 tryouts and age group changes on their sites well ahead of the fall season, and the rec programs often open registration sooner than the competitive ones.

Our guide to choosing a club has the questions worth asking at a tryout, and the costs page explains what a season in Alaska might add up to.
