Youth soccer clubs in South Dakota
South Dakota has no MLS NEXT, ECNL or Girls Academy clubs, so competitive soccer here runs through the state association, US Club Soccer's National Premier League and a few regional tournaments in the Midwest.
Club soccer in South Dakota
The scene is small but active, and it's concentrated around Sioux Falls in the east, Brookings north of it and Rapid City in the Black Hills.
The South Dakota Youth Soccer Association is the state body and is affiliated with US Youth Soccer. It runs the State Championship Series, the SDYSA Prairie League and the Dakota ODP, and it handles recreational registration for clubs across the state, mostly in spring and fall. Competitive teams, it says, travel across the Midwest and sometimes nationally. SDYSA has also announced an age group change for the 2026-27 season, so check birth-year cutoffs before tryouts.
Sioux Falls has the largest club. Dakota Alliance Soccer Club says it serves over 3,000 players in southeast South Dakota and was named the first member club of the Minnesota United FC Academy, which gives its players access to clinics, camps and talent discovery events with that MLS club. Rapid City has Black Hills Rapids, an affiliate of the Colorado Rapids through the Rapids adidas Alliance, whose U16 and U19 girls won National Premier League national titles in 2026. In Brookings, the SoDak Spurs have sent boys and girls teams to the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regionals in St. Louis, and their Fishback Classic draws about 100 teams.
Weather matters here too. Indoor leagues and winter training fill the gap from late fall to spring. The clubs below are the ones South Dakota parents mention most, and each page links to the club's own site so you can look up programs, fees and tryout dates for your child's age.
Popular clubs in South Dakota
These are the clubs South Dakota families ask about most. League badges show what we could confirm for the 2025-26 season, so check each club's own site for current teams, tryout dates and fees. For 2026-27, the NPL and the US Youth Soccer National League combined into the National 1 League, which teams enter one at a time, so ask a club which of its teams play in N1.
Dakota Alliance Soccer Club
Dakota Alliance is the largest youth club in the state, serving over 3,000 players in southeast South Dakota. It was named the first member club of the Minnesota United FC Academy, with shared clinics, camps and coach education. Its site lists a fall 2026 recreational season and separate registration for new and returning players, and it has sent teams deep into US Youth Soccer national events, including a girls 15U semifinal run at the 2024 Presidents Cup.
Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club
Black Hills Rapids was formed from the merger of Rapid City Youth Soccer League and Rushmore Soccer Club, and it's an affiliate of the Colorado Rapids. Its site lists competitive teams, a recreational program, First Kicks, a Center of Excellence, Pre-Academy, an indoor league and a Northern Hills program. The U16 and U19 girls teams were crowned National Premier League champions in 2026, and the club says it also won in 2025.
SoDak Spurs Soccer Club
The SoDak Spurs are based in Brookings and list GrassRoots soccer for ages 5 to 12, Junior Spurs, Super Spurs, a Huron grassroots program and competitive teams for ages 8 to 18. Two teams, a 2011 boys group and a 2008 girls group, played at the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regionals in St. Louis in 2025. The club hosts the Fishback Classic, a sanctioned tournament that draws about 100 teams, and a winter classic.
From South Dakota clubs to college soccer
For a lot of South Dakota families, club soccer is also the road to playing in college. These pages cover the next step, from ID camps close to home to emailing college coaches.

Where you live decides most of this. Sioux Falls families can choose a big club with lots of teams, Brookings and Rapid City each have a clear main club, and families in smaller towns often drive to the nearest one. A 45 minute drive twice a week gets old by November, so be realistic.
Next, think about the league you want. Black Hills Rapids plays in the National Premier League and has national champions at U16 and U19 girls. Dakota Alliance has the Minnesota United Academy tie-in. The SoDak Spurs focus on US Youth Soccer play, including the Midwest Regionals. None of them use MLS NEXT or ECNL, so ask each club which tournaments its older teams actually attend.
Finally, ask about indoor soccer. Black Hills Rapids lists an indoor league and the Spurs run a winter classic, so ask any club you're considering what it offers from November to March. Tryout timing varies, so look at club sites in early summer, since Dakota Alliance has held competitive tryouts in early July and Black Hills Rapids has already posted 2026-27 tryouts.
Before you sign anything, read up on what club soccer costs and how tryouts and offers usually work. Most South Dakota families find the second season easier than the first.
