Youth soccer clubs in Utah
Utah is a one-corridor state for soccer.
Club soccer in Utah
Nearly every serious club sits along the Wasatch Front, from Davis County down through Salt Lake County to Utah County, and the drive between Provo and Layton is about as long as most families will tolerate on a school night. That compact map makes Utah an easy state to shop in. You can look at three or four clubs without moving anyone.
The pro presence is unusually strong for a state this size. Real Salt Lake and the NWSL's Utah Royals both play here, and the RSL Academy trains at the Zions Bank Training Center in Herriman, a campus that also has an academy high school and a dormitory. Not many youth players will land there, but its existence shapes the whole market. Clubs like City SC Utah, based in Riverton, run MLS NEXT teams and Girls Academy side by side, while Utah Avalanche has been a long-standing ECNL member and Utah Surf plays in the ECNL Regional League out of Highland and Orem.
The state body is the Utah Youth Soccer Association, which runs the State Competition League and National 1 League play. Many families begin there before stepping up.
Winter is the real constraint. Snow and cold push training indoors from roughly late fall to early spring, and clubs that own or rent indoor turf have a clear edge. Avalanche has opened an indoor facility in South Jordan, and Surf offers tryouts in Utah County, Davis County and St. George, a reminder that southern Utah has its own pocket of families who need a club within reach. For travel, higher levels of play regularly send teams to Arizona, Nevada and Colorado, so ask what the real cost is before committing.
Popular clubs in Utah
These are the clubs Utah families ask about most. League badges show what we could confirm for the 2025-26 season, so check each club's own site for current teams, tryout dates and fees.
RSL Academy
Real Salt Lake's academy is the state's only direct youth pipeline to an MLS club. It is based at the Zions Bank Training Center in Herriman, where the campus includes an indoor facility, five natural-grass fields shared with the first team, an academy high school and a live-in dormitory. The academy lists U-16 and U-18 rosters and publishes pages tracking graduates who went on to college, domestic pro clubs or Europe. Entry is by tryout and selective.
Utah Avalanche
Utah Avalanche calls itself a long-standing ECNL member and fields both boys and girls teams at that level, along with ECNL Regional League and WPSL. Training sites include a new indoor facility in South Jordan and fields across West Utah County in Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs and Lehi. The club also runs recreational soccer in Davis County and Eagle Mountain, plus step-up and juniors programs for younger players, so families can start small and move up inside one club.
City SC Utah
City SC Utah is based in Riverton and operates a Metro side and a South side. It plays MLS NEXT Academy for boys and Girls Academy for girls, and it adds Utah Youth Soccer competitive teams, a girls Development Player League squad and a boys Development Academy League squad. A WPSL team covers ages 14 to 23, and a pre-academy program serves ages 5 to 8. MLS NEXT home games are played at the Salt Lake City Regional Athletic Complex.
Utah Surf
Utah Surf is based in Highland and Orem and lists the ECNL Regional League as its top level, competing across the Intermountain West. Below that it runs Premier and State Competition League teams inside the Utah Youth Soccer structure, and an Intermountain Recreation League entry route. Its Jr. Surfer Academy is a non-competitive program for ages 4 to 8. Tryouts are held in Utah County, Davis County and St. George, which gives southern Utah families a local option.
From Utah clubs to college soccer
For a lot of Utah families, club soccer is also the road to playing in college. These pages cover the next step, from ID camps close to home to emailing college coaches.

Meet Recruitly ›Choosing a club in Utah
Start by mapping the Wasatch Front against your own commute. Utah Avalanche trains in South Jordan, Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs and Lehi, Utah Surf is based in Highland and Orem with programs in Davis County and southern Utah, and City SC Utah operates in Riverton and the south valley. A club close to home beats a famous name across the valley.
Next, think about indoor space. Winters are long, and a club with its own turf building can keep sessions steady from November through March, while clubs without one often rent gym time at odd hours.
Then choose a level. ECNL and MLS NEXT mean regional travel to Arizona, Nevada and Colorado, so budget for hotels. The Utah Youth Soccer Association's state leagues keep most games in-state. Check each club's site for tryout dates, since they differ from club to club.
Before you sign anything, read up on what club soccer costs and how tryouts and offers usually work. Most Utah families find the second season easier than the first.
Utah club soccer FAQ
Which Utah clubs play in MLS NEXT?
The RSL Academy in Herriman and City SC Utah in Riverton both play MLS NEXT. The 2025-26 Academy Division member list also includes City SC Utah and Wasatch Soccer Club. Utah clubs compete in the Desert group, which also has teams from Arizona and Nevada.
Does Utah have ECNL clubs?
Yes. Utah Avalanche fields both boys and girls ECNL teams, and Utah Surf plays in the ECNL Regional League. Colorado, Arizona and Nevada teams are part of the same regional picture, so travel to those states is normal for older age groups.
Where can I find tryouts outside the Salt Lake area?
Utah Surf lists tryouts in Utah County, Davis County and St. George, which covers southern Utah. Utah Avalanche trains in South Jordan and across West Utah County. Check each club's site for dates, since they vary by club and age group.
