Youth soccer clubs in Delaware

Delaware is small enough that a youth soccer parent can drive the length of the state in a couple of hours, and the elite scene reflects that.

Club soccer in Delaware

A few clubs cover nearly everything, and the most competitive one is Delaware FC, a Hockessin organization that now runs North, Central and South regions so families in Dover, Middletown, Lewes and Rehoboth don't have to commute to Wilmington. Sporting Athletic Club works out of Wilmington with training at Chase Fieldhouse and the Kirkwood Sports Complex, and ALBION SC Delaware serves the Smyrna, Middletown, Odessa and Townsend area from Clayton.

The state association is the Delaware Youth Soccer Association, which runs the State Cup, an interclub recreational league, ODP and TOPSoccer. State Cup winners and select runners-up have qualified for US Youth Soccer's Region I championships in past years.

On the national side, Delaware FC was promoted into the ECNL Boys North Atlantic Conference for 2025-26, after its boys and girls teams had already played in the ECNL Regional League. Sporting AC lists MLS NEXT, MLS NEXT II and Girls Academy, and ALBION's site lists an Albion GA and MLS NEXT program. Many top Delaware players also look north into Pennsylvania, where clubs like FC DELCO and the Philadelphia Union academy sit less than an hour from Wilmington.

There's no pro team in the state, so families lean on Philadelphia and Baltimore for MLS, NWSL and USL soccer. Delaware FC runs adult teams under the Delaware Ospreys name, including a USL League Two men's side and a WPSL women's side, so young players can see a local senior pathway.

Because the state is so small, the best advice is to visit two or three clubs and compare coaches and travel before you decide. The ones below are the three we could confirm on official sites, and each links to its own page.

Picking a team

Choosing a club in Delaware

Geography matters less in Delaware than in a big state, but it still matters. Delaware FC has North, Central and South regions, and ALBION trains in Clayton, so a family in Sussex County may end up in a very different club than one in Newark. Sporting AC is the Wilmington-area option, with sessions at Chase Fieldhouse, Kirkwood and the WSFS Bank Sportsplex.

Ask about leagues early. ECNL and MLS NEXT teams travel to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and beyond, and weekend trips add up. EDP and state leagues keep more games close to home.

Also think about how the club handles girls and boys. Sporting AC lists MLS NEXT for boys and Girls Academy for girls, Delaware FC lists ECNL for boys and the ECNL Regional League for girls, and ALBION's site lists a joint Albion GA and MLS NEXT program. Tryout dates differ by club and most post them on their own sites well ahead of the new season, so check before the spring rush.
