Youth soccer clubs in Massachusetts
Massachusetts has the deepest pool of competitive youth soccer in New England, and most of it sits inside Route 495.
Club soccer in Massachusetts
Greater Boston, MetroWest and the North and South Shores hold clubs that play at every level, from town travel programs to national leagues. Past Worcester the picture thins out, with Springfield and the Pioneer Valley running their own group of clubs, so where you live decides much of what you can reach.
The boys side has a clear top tier. The New England Revolution Academy plays in MLS NEXT, and clubs such as the Boston Bolts, Valeo FC in Newton and NEFC in Mendon list MLS NEXT teams as well. Boston Bolts says it has been around since 1986 and runs boys and girls programs, while Valeo has operated in Greater Boston since 2003. On the girls side, ECNL is represented by clubs like FC Stars in Acton and Select Soccer Club in Hingham, which has been active since 1996 and now lists both ECNL Girls and ECNL Boys. Girls Academy teams come from clubs including the Bolts, NEFC and Seacoast United Massachusetts, whose fields sit in Amesbury, Byfield and Andover.
The state also has professional teams to follow. The Revolution play in MLS at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, and Boston Legacy FC played its first NWSL season in 2026, also at Gillette. Both bring a real pathway for the youngest age groups, and the Revolution fully fund their youth teams.
Costs and commutes are the real filters. Traffic on I-93, Route 128 and the Pike means a 20 mile drive can take an hour, so many families pick a club based on practice sites more than on league names. Winter is long, so clubs run indoor facilities, futsal and winter academies from December through March. Western Massachusetts is a different market, with Western United Pioneers in Ludlow carrying the load there. The clubs below are ones parents hear about most often, and each links to its own site so you can check current teams and tryout dates.
Popular clubs in Massachusetts
These are the clubs Massachusetts families ask about most. League badges show what we could confirm for the 2025-26 season, so check each club's own site for current teams, tryout dates and fees.
New England Revolution Academy
The Revolution Academy is the youth pathway of the MLS club and fields five teams from U13 through U18 in MLS NEXT, based on its recent season reports. The club says its youth teams are fully funded, covering training, uniforms and travel, and it runs a residency program for players from across New England and beyond. Its U14 side won the MLS NEXT Cup in 2022 and 2023, which is the clearest sign of how strong the program has been.
Boston Bolts
The Bolts were established in 1986 and list a wide range of programs across eastern and central Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Boys play in MLS NEXT at the Homegrown and Academy levels, and girls play in Girls Academy and the DPL. The club also runs the National Academy League, a USL Academy side, a Northeast Academy for ages 12 and under, and Bolts U-23 teams for men and women. That gives players a path from youth to adult soccer under one badge.
NEFC
NEFC is a non-profit that says it trains more than 3,000 players aged 6 to 23 across Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, with a staff of over 85. SoccerWire lists it in ECNL Boys, MLS NEXT and Girls Academy, and the club's men's team plays in USL League Two. It runs several Massachusetts regions, plus Juniors for ages 5 to 8 and an inner city initiative with need-based scholarships.
FC Stars
FC Stars is a non-profit club that serves players from across New England and lists both ECNL and ECNL Regional League teams for boys and girls. A pre-ECNL level feeds the older teams, and the club also plays in the New England Club Soccer League and the National Academy League. Its boys program won the ECNL Boys Northeast Conference championship in 2023-24. College placement is a stated focus, and it runs a college showcase each year.
Select Soccer Club
Select was established in 1996 and has locations in Danvers, Beverly, Bedford, Canton, Hingham, Weymouth, Exeter and Somersworth, plus Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The site lists ECNL Girls and ECNL Boys, teams from U7 to U19, and programs for ages two to eight. The girls side moved to ECNL in 2024-25 after playing in Girls Academy. Goalkeeper training and a college program are on offer.
Valeo FC
Valeo is based at the Valeo Sports Center on Wells Avenue in Newton and has trained players in Greater Boston since 2003. Boys play in MLS NEXT from U13 to U19, with a National Academy League side and a Pre-MLS NEXT level for ages 11 and 12. Girls and boys both play in NECSL, and futsal runs for ages 7 to 13. An inner-city program reaches Somerville, East Boston and Dorchester.
New England Surf
New England Surf runs separate boys and girls programs and holds state tryouts for each. Its girls were named to the 2025-26 ECNL Regional League all-conference lists, and MLS NEXT's Academy Division member list includes New England Surf SC. A Junior Academy, futsal, summer camps, international travel and U23 programs for men and women round out the club. Ask which teams play at which tier, since the site doesn't spell it out.
Seacoast United Massachusetts
The Massachusetts side of Seacoast United has a North region with sites at Governor's Academy in Byfield, Maples Crossing in Amesbury and Greater Lawrence Tech in Andover. The parent club's top level lists MLS NEXT for boys and Girls Academy for girls, and the Massachusetts region has a girls director and a boys director. Tournaments include the Labor Day Tournament, Ocean Cup and the Nate Hardy Memorial Day Tournament.
Western United Pioneers
Western United Pioneers is the western Massachusetts option, with a Ludlow mailing address and teams drawn from the Pioneer Valley. SoccerWire lists it with Girls Academy and USL Academy memberships, and the club says it has about 500 travel players. Its site advertises USL Academy U19 tryouts and a First Kick program for ages three to five. It also runs recreational and adult soccer.
From Massachusetts clubs to college soccer

Meet Recruitly ›Choosing a club in Massachusetts
Look at the map before the logo. A club with training sites close to home will serve your player better than a famous one across Boston at rush hour. NEFC, FC Stars and Seacoast United Massachusetts all spread across several regions, so ask which field your birth year uses, and how often the team travels for games.
Then choose a tier. MLS NEXT and Girls Academy mean frequent trips around New England and sometimes beyond, and costs climb with them. ECNL clubs like FC Stars and Select add national showcases. If you want more local play, many clubs also field teams in the New England Club Soccer League, which keeps most games in the region.
Finally, ask about timing. Tryouts at larger clubs often start in spring for the following season, and some run supplemental tryouts later. Indoor options matter too, since a Massachusetts winter will push training into dome facilities for months.
