Overview

Club soccer in Louisiana

Most of the competitive soccer sits along the I-10 corridor, in the New Orleans area, across Lake Pontchartrain on the Northshore, in Baton Rouge and in Lafayette. The Louisiana Soccer Association is the state's governing body and runs the Louisiana Classic Soccer League, the Louisiana Select ODP program and the State Cup, Presidents Cup, Bob Abbott Cup and Open Cup. For years, the best Louisiana teams had to leave the state to find national league play. That shifted in 2025-26.

Louisiana Fire SC in Kenner was welcomed into ECNL Boys, and its boys director called it the only ECNL club in the state. The same season, the new ECNL Regional League Gulf Coast launched with six clubs, including Louisiana Fire, Mandeville SC and LA Krewe Rush from Lafayette, along with clubs from Mississippi and Alabama. That gives Louisiana players a regional schedule built around the Gulf South instead of a flight to Texas every other weekend.

Baton Rouge Soccer Club is the big community name in the capital, with recreational, academy, competitive and semi-pro teams under one roof. Lafayette's South Side Youth Soccer Club runs LA Krewe Rush, which formed in 2023 from the merger of Cajun Rush and Lafayette Dynamo Juniors, and it keeps ties to the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash. Mandeville SC has been around since 1994, runs a recreational program with more than 1,500 kids a season, and won the State Cup in 2023 and 2024.

If you're new to the state, the practical move is to pick the region you live in first, then compare which league level each nearby club actually offers.

Picking a team

Choosing a club in Louisiana

Geography decides more here than almost anywhere. Louisiana is long and narrow in the places that matter, so check the drive from your house to the training fields before anything else. A Northshore family and a Lafayette family are about two hours apart, which is why many clubs run satellite campuses. The ECNL Regional League Gulf Coast helps with travel, since opponents come from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, but ECNL Boys play involves longer trips.

Heat and humidity run from spring into October, and thunderstorms can wipe out practice nights, so ask whether the club has lighted or turf fields. Tryout timing varies by club, and most announce dates on their sites in the spring, so check early. For younger players, a club with a large recreational program makes it easy to try the game close to home before committing to a competitive team. Ask each club which league its team will actually play in before you pay a deposit.
